Introducing the new Jaguar I-Pace: Jaguar has been one of the top names in luxury vehicles for decades now. And this momentum is carried over to this day, as the company is still creating waves. In one such latest endeavor that seeks to change the playing field of electric cars, they have come out with the brand new Jaguar I-Pace

The Jaguar I-Pace (stylized as “I PACE”) is a battery-electric crossover SUV produced by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the British subsidiary of the Indian automotive company TATA, under their Jaguar marque. The Jaguar I Pace was announced in March 2018, with the Land Rover marquee confirming that the car will be launched in the year 2020. But due to the ongoing pandemic, they scheduled it for the first half of the year 2021. As for India, the company is making plans to launch the car on 23rd March, 2021.

The company has made many plans to launch various electric vehicles in India. The Jaguar I Pace is the first all electric SUV to be launched by not only the group but also from a premium European automaker. The electrification plan of the company is in line with the introduction of electric cars from the vision of the company.

Boosting a range of unique and exciting features, the car is a SUV model with smooth electrifying touches from the exquisite brand of cars. The Jaguar I Pace is upscale, stylish, accelerates with ease, and has some strong handling capabilities. What appears to be the most appealing features are the slim headlights and a stylish cut in the car. Other interesting features of the car also includes the cockpit which is fitted with three screens.

Of course, this all comes at quite the cost. But if you’re searching for a luxury EV SUV, you probably are not too concerned about the initial cost. But at the same time, you will save on fuel since this is an electrical vehicle. The Jaguar I-Pace is the oldest contender in the crossover section where it will compete with Audi e-Tron, Mercedes Benz EQC, Tesla and BMW iNEXT.

In the upcoming sections, we will also see about the Jaguar I-Pace specification and variations in India and abroad. Let us see some other details of the car Jaguar I Pace that will include Jaguar I Pace price and Jaguar I Pace range.

JAGUAR I-PACE: ORIGIN AND DEVELOPMENT

The Jaguar I-Pace was designed by Ian Callum. The concept version of the car, described as a five-seater sports car, was unveiled by Jaguar Land Rover at the 2016 Los Angeles Motor Show and shown on-road in London in March 2017.

The I-Pace is built by contract manufacturer Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, and the production version of the I-Pace was revealed in Graz on 1 March 2018. Interestingly, some of the electric drive technology has come out of the Jaguar I-Type electric Formula E racing car programme, and the concentric motors were developed by JLR engineer Dr. Alex Michaelides. JAGUAR I-PACE: STRUCTURE

Jaguar Land Rover had revealed the plan for I-Pace in the year 2016. As the concept was developed by the team of Land Rover, the car is also built exactly similar to that concept. Jaguar I-Pace is a SUV with little ground clearance. The wheel arches look similar to the muscular in shape with smooth texture windshields. Eager to know the Jaguar I Pace price and Jaguar I Pace range? Keep reading.

JAGUAR I PACE AERODYNAMICS

From the pronounced front wheel arches to the rear diffuser, every element of Jaguar I PACE’s aerodynamic design allows the car to slice cleanly through the air for optimized range and stability.

BONNET SCOOP – The bold grille curves inwards – reducing drag by channeling air through the bonnet scoop and out, where it passes over a roofline that is curved for maximum efficiency.

REAR DIFFUSER – Squared off corners encourage air to detach cleanly from the vehicle, minimizing the pressure differences that cause drag.

DOOR HANDLES – Ensuring that airflow passes smoothly around the entire exterior of Jaguar I Pace, deployable door handles sit flush with the car’s sides.

FLOWING WAISTLINE – The driver’s cabin sits low with sweeping fenders that create a sense of movement and complement the body’s fast, tapering waistline.

STYLING

Giving a distinctive on-road presence, Jaguar I PACE’s slim futuristic LED headlights feature our signature double ‘J’ blade graphic, while the roof offers an exceptionally smooth look with a body-colored, Black contrast paint or panoramic glass roof.

LED HEADLIGHTS – For even greater visibility and safety at night, choose optional Matrix LED headlights with signature DRL. This system maintains continuous use of the high beam but automatically adjusts the shape of the beam to avoid dazzling oncoming vehicles.

REAR LED TAILLIGHTS – Jaguar I PACE’s sleek rear tail lights are also LED. When optional Matrix LED headlights with signature DRL are selected, the tail lights feature the same dramatic Animated Directional Indicators as the headlights.

ROOF OPTIONS – Jaguar I PACE is available with either a body-coloured or Black contrast metal roof or panoramic glass roof. The tinted and infrared absorbing glass prevents strong sunlight, UV light and heat entering the cabin.

JAGUAR WHEELS – Make Jaguar I PACE truly yours by choosing from a range of 11 wheels. Available in sizes from 18” to 22”. Wheel options include the 20″ Style 5070, 5 split-spoke, with Polished Technical Grey finish.

JAGUAR I-PACE: SPECIFICATIONS

The Jaguar I-Pace launched with a WLTP-rated range of 292 miles (470 km) and an EPA-rated range of 234 miles (377 km). In December 2019, software enhancements were released to increase range to an EPA-rated range of 246 miles (396 km). The car has a wade depth of 500 mm (20 in). The rear boot holds 656 litres (23 cu ft), along with 28 litres (1 cu ft) of front boot space. The drag coefficient is 0.29.

The car has an all-wheel-drive via two motors powered by a 90 kWh LG Chem lithium-ion battery comprising 40% of the car’s cost, and the battery management system is developed by JLR. Each motor delivers 197 hp (147 kW) and 258 lb⋅ft (350 N⋅m) of torque, for a total power of 395 hp (295 kW) and total torque of 516 lb⋅ft (700 N⋅m). The car is able to sprint from 0–62 mph (0–100 km/h) in 4.8 seconds and to an electronically limited top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h).

The battery contains 432 pouch cells. Jaguar has partnered with Tata Power for charging solutions. It can charge from 0 to 80 percent in 85 minutes using 50 kW DC charging, or 45 minutes using a 100 kW charger. Home charging with an AC wall box (7 kW) achieves the same state of charge in 10 hours.

As the I-Pace has a single-phase AC charger, it is slow to charge outside fast charge areas; with a one-hour charge, 7 kW charging adds around 30 km (19 miles) of range. While there is no ARAI-certified range yet, the I-Pace has a 470km WLTP-rated range on a single charge.

CHARGING OPTIONS

The state of lacklustre charging infrastructure currently available in India has been a concern for a long time, but Jaguar has acknowledged this problem and sought to resolve this problem as well. The company has partnered with Tata Power to provide home and office charging options to all Jaguar I Pace customers. As things stand, Tata Power has set up an EV charging network in India with over 200 charging stations, called ‘EZ Charge’, which Jaguar I Pace owners will currently be able to access across 23+ cities.

Additionally, a complimentary 7.4kW AC wall-mounted charger will be provided with the purchase of the EV. In the following sections we will talk about Jaguar I Pace range.

DRIVING RANGE

The car has a driving range of nearly 470 km on the WLTP scale. The long-range of the car Jaguar I-Pace is enabled due to the high-end technology lithium-ion battery. The car is fitted with a battery of 90 kWh capacity and the Jaguar I-Pace drag coefficient is 0.29 Cd. This enables the car to run a range of 470 km in a single charge. The car has zero tailpipe emission thus making it environmentally friendly too. There are certain factors that impact the range of the car Jaguar I-Pace. Let us see those other factors. Now that you know the Jaguar I Pace range, let’s look at the interior climate of the car.

INTERIOR CLIMATE

We all know that heating and air conditioning systems fitted in the car use energy that can reduce the range of the car. The customers are advised mainly to use the heating and the air conditioning systems before they start their journey. This will have a less impact on the range of the car. Jaguar I-Pace has the ability to precondition the inside temperature before the start of the journey. To know the Jaguar I Pace price, read further.

The preconditioning of the car can also be done while Jaguar I Pace is still charging. As a result, this will help the car to generate electricity from the power supply directly and not use the battery. This increases the efficiency of the car by not depending on the car battery to heat or cool the interiors of the car.

EXTREME TEMPERATURE

Extremely low and high temperatures have an impact on the battery life of the car. Jaguar I-Pace is fitted with thermal management systems that help the battery of the car to maintain its optimal temperature and thereby reduce the impact of the outside temperature on the range of the car. These certain features of the Jaguar I-Pace help to compete with its competitors mainly the Audi e-Tron and the Mercedes Benz EQC.

DRIVING STYLE

Driving style also has an impact on the range of the car. We all know that high-speed acceleration will have an adverse impact on the charge of the car. At the same time, when driving at a constant speed/steady pace will help to save the battery of the car. This will automatically help to preserve the range of the car.

One more important thing that should be noted is regarding the braking section of the car. Gradual acceleration will reduce the use of hard braking that will consume more energy when compared to gentle braking. Therefore it is advised that the speed and acceleration of the car should be well controlled so that the battery fitted is used effectively.

DRIVING IN TRAFFIC

In the above sections we have seen that acceleration and braking consume the power that directly affects the charge of the car. In certain difficult situations like when driving in traffic, the impact falls on the battery of the car. Maintaining a steady speed on congested roads helps to save the charge and at the same time range is also preserved.

JAGUAR I PACE: OTHER FEATURES

The car comes with a smartphone app which can locate the car, report on its locking, alarming, and charging status, and start its battery preconditioning and/or cabin heating/cooling. The app cannot switch on the windscreen or rear window heaters.

Jaguar also offers the Jaguar I Pace with a number of optional extras, including adaptive air suspension, four-zone climate control, an ionising air purifier with PM2.5 filtration, and a digital rear-view mirror, among others.

INFOTAINMENT

Every I-Pace comes with a touch-sensitive infotainment system that includes a 10.0-inch upper screen for audio and the like as well as a 5.5-inch lower display that primarily handles cabin climate. While Jaguar claims to have updated the interface to be more intuitive than before, we have yet to test that out for ourselves. One neat feature of the new software is that it’ll show you the locations of charging stations as well as their availability, cost, and estimated charging time.

Every Jaguar I Pace supports Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration and a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. A 380-watt Meridian sound system comes standard but can be swapped for an 825-watt unit. Read further to know the Jaguar I Pace price.

JAGUAR I-PACE: VARIANTS

In India, Jaguar will offer the I-Pace electric SUV in three variants – S, SE, and top-spec HSE. Each one offers a little something different.

The 2021 Jaguar I-PACE starts its line-up off with the S trim level. This trim level starts off at around $69,500 and is equipped with the standard powertrain. There is a 4-wheel independent suspension up front and an independent multi-link suspension system in the rear. There are a lot of lighting and electrical features to be found in the S trim, many of which are related to vehicle safety and driver aids.

Of course, those are all great features, but if you’re willing to pay over $80,000, you can level up to the SE trim. The SE trim has the same mechanical features as the S, and it rides atop 20-inch wheels with the option for 22-inch wheels instead. There is a rear wing spoiler on the outside, and you can still opt for the carbon fiber grille. Pretty much everything on the exterior looks the same.

On the other hand, HSE has certain features that makes it an even more inclusive option than the SE. It is loaded with all of the standard safety equipment that comes on the lower trim levels. The HSE’s engine will still get you 80 mpg in the city and 72 mpg on the highway. Also, the exterior design is mostly the same, save for a few very minor details. Inside, things are similar as well. You will not find a ton of differences between the SE and HSE when it comes to multimedia features.

The base-spec Jaguar I Pace will come well-kitted, with 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED headlamps and tail-lights, a full-length fixed glass roof, dual touchscreen infotainment system running ‘Pivi Pro’, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, ‘InControl’ connected-car tech and more coming as standard. The top-spec HSE trim will feature even more equipment like the adaptive ‘Matrix’ LED headlights, a hands-free boot release, adaptive cruise control, a heads-up display, ‘Windsor’ leather sport seats, and a 16-speaker, 825W Meridian sound system, to name a few.
