Corona virus also known as Covid-19 pandemic had started from Wuhan city of China. It has now slowly taken over the entire world. The virus has claimed the lives of almost 6.33 lac people globally (as of 24 Jul. 20). In order to reduce the number of cases, government had implemented a lock-down until recently. Because of that only essential services such as grocery stores and medical shops were allowed to function. Most governments across the world have implemented Covid-19 unlock but cinema theaters in several countries remain closed. It is done, primarily to curb the cases of the virus.

OTT platforms coming to the rescue – MOVIES RELEASED IN JULY 2020

Filmmakers have taken a call to release their movies on OTT platforms. Because of Covid-19, earlier they were planning to release their movies in later part of the year. And now they are released on platforms such as #Netflix (NETFLIX), #Amazonprime (AMAZON PRIME), #Zee5 (ZEE5), #Disney+Hotstar (DISNEY+ HOTSTAR) among others is starting now. OTT platforms are now no longer an arena for debutant filmmakers and actors.

Most experienced people in the entertainment industry have now taken to these platforms. They have created several award-winning web shows and short films. Dil Bechara – Movie already released on 24th July 2020

The most awaited film of the year would finally release on Disney+Hotstar, as a result of most multiplexes being closed. The film is an Indian adaptation of the book “The fault in our stars” by John Green. This movie stars the award winning actor Late Sushant Singh Rajput and debutant Sanjana Singhi in key roles. Movie revolves around Manny (Rajput) who had successfully combated a fatal disease. He believes in living the life to the fullest. And Kizie Basu (Singhi), someone who has been diagnosed with cancer and is in her final stages. Director of the movie is Mukesh Chhabra. It has released on 24th July 2020.

This movie is in the list among MOVIES RELEASED IN JULY 2020 but people still like the movie, majorly because Sushant Singh Rajput can now only be remembered through his movies.

Yaara – Movie released on 30th July 2020

Another awaited film of the year was Yaara, it would release globally on Zee5+. The movie stars Vidyut Jamwal, Amit Sadh , Shruti Hassan and Vijay Varma in key roles. The film is an Indian adaptation of the 2011-French film A gang story. The plot of the film revolves around how a group of four friends who happen to be gangsters. They hustle around the border of India and Nepal and what happens when Phagun(Jamwal) and Mitwa(Sadh) have a fallout with each other. Director of the movie is Tigmanshu Dhulia and it did hit screens globally on 30th July 2020.

Lootcase – Movie released on 31st July 2020

Director of this film is Rajesh Krishnan. It stars Gajraj Rao, Ranvir Shorey and Kunal Khemu in essential roles. The film revolves around Nandan Kumar ( Khemu) who comes across a suitcase and discovers it is full of cash. The ownership of the same remains doubtful. Because he takes the suitcase, as a result he finds himself being chased. Chased by notorious gangster (Raaz), an honest cop (Shorey) and a minister ( Rao), want the suitcase at any cost. The movie released on 31st July 2020 on Disney+Hotstar worldwide.

Shakuntala Devi – Movie released on 31st July 2020

One of the most awaited films of the year, it was released globally on Amazon Prime Video. The movie stars Vidhya Balan, Sanya Malhotra and Amit Sadh in key roles. The film is a biopic, based on the story of Shakuntala Devi. She was a mathematician hailing from the rural heartlands of Karnataka in Southwest India. She was considered as “Human computer” because of her abilities to solve complex mathematical solutions within minutes. Director of this movie is Anu Menon and it hit OTT screens globally on 31st July 2020.

Virgin Bhanupriya – Movie already released on 16th July 2020

The comedy film revolves around Bhanupriya(Urvashi Rautela), an urban girl and her daily adventures along with her friends. She is a conservative Indian girl, willing to lose her virginity. The film also explores the complex relations between youngsters and their parents. The film has been directed by Ajay Lohan. It stars Urvashi Rautela, Gautam Gulati and Archana Puran Singh in key roles. The movie was made live on 16th July 2020 on Zee5+.

French Biriyani – Movie already released on 24th July 2020

This film is probably the first Kannada one to release first on an online platform. The film has been directed by Pannagana Bharana. It stars Danish Sait, Disha Madan, Sal Yusuf, Sampath Kumar and Pitobash Tripathy in key roles. This film has been produced by Puneeth Rajkumar and A. Talwar under the banner of PRK productions. The film revolves around Asgar(Sait) and Simon(Yusuf). Asgar(Sait) is an auto-rickshaw driver. He hails from the muslim-dominated locality of Shivajinagar in Central Bengaluru. Simon(Yusuf), a Frenchman who has come to the Garden City. How a journey of two days helps both understand their lives better. And give it more perspective forms the entire plot of the film.
