A tribute to the working moms!

The magical working moms of the Covid era

There is an old English proverb that goes like this, “Life does not come with a manual, it comes with a mother”. It is a given fact that no other creature on the entire Earth can love us in the unique & enchanting fashion that our mothers do. They act as our shield and save us from all the harm which is directed in our way. For someone who loves you unconditionally, it would be unfair if a “special day” is not dedicated to her. Though, our mother’s love us so much that celebrating it the entire 365 days in a year will not be enough for us. Historically, it was the 28th United States President Woodrow Wilson who signed a measure officially declaring the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day. This year, we will be celebrating mother’s day on 9th May.

A tribute to the working moms!

At We Are The Writers (WATW), we will be celebrating this date by honouring those mothers who are earning their livelihood & handling their kids/toddlers at the same time through our event – “The magical working moms of the covid era”. In the times of the coronavirus pandemic, day-to-day life has been affected for both kids & mothers alike. Adapting to the new normal has certainly been a struggle for everyone.

Handling both kids & work in this pandemic is a task to reckon with. According to a report published by International Labour Organization (ILO), urban Indian women spent 312 minutes on unpaid care work every day in comparison to 29 minutes of their male counterparts. A recent survey conducted by Linkedin in 2020 suggested that 31 per cent of Indian working mothers are providing full-time childcare, in comparison to just 17 per cent working fathers. These statistics can help us understand how difficult the role of mother in a family generally is.

Blurred boundaries between home & office!

As Work from Home (WFH) has blurred the boundaries between office & home, We Are The Writers (WATW) will be putting forward through its platform how mothers across the country are coping up with the responsibilities as a parent alongside handling the work pressure.

Earlier it was engraved in stone that only male member is supposed to work in a family and the women would play the role of a home-maker. Some people believed that a “good mother” gives up work to stay home alongside their children; however, no scientific evidence to date has proved that children are harmed when their mother works. A child’s development is impacted more or less by the emotional health of the family instead.

Stay safe, and don’t give your mothers anxiety attacks during the pandemic!

One should always remember the unconditional love which mothers have for their child, and society should also acknowledge the contributions and efforts of our mothers. In this time of the pandemic, one should remember that no one is as worried about our health & well-being as our mother. As a result, next time you go outside, you should always wear your mask properly & maintain social distancing- because if you fall sick, you would also be hurting your mother emotionally in the process.
