International Men’s Day 2020

We have always seen and judged men on the basis of their masculinity. But, they and their contributions to the society should be celebrated. Therefore, Men’s Day is dedicated to acknowledge the sacrifices, knowledge and contributions of every male on this earth. Be it a brother, father, son, husband, guy-friends or any man/boy of the family. Men too deserve recognition and so, on this day people acknowledge the males of their family or friends or colleagues. In addition, we suggest you to take the opportunity of this day and send the men you know a sweet little message to tell them that they are important.

On the other hand, International Men’s Day is an occasion to appreciate the role, support and sacrifice of men towards the family, community, society, nation and so on.

Origin – International Men’s Day

The day roots back in 1960s from an editorial written by an American Journalist, John P. Harris. In his editorial, he mentioned the imbalance of the Soviet society that acknowledge womanhood on International Women’s Day but no day for men.

Later, in 1991, Thomas Oaster, the director of the Missouri Center for Men’s Studies proposed to celebrate a small Men’s Day in February. He invited US, Malta and Australia. And the day was inaugurated on 7th February, 1992.

In 1999, the day was revived in Trinidad and Tobago by Jerome Teelucksingh. He wanted to recognize the identity of men with spreading positivity. Therefore, he chose 19th November; his father’s birthday and the day when Trinidad and Tobago’s football team united for World Cup in 1989.

In India, the day was adopted in 2007 by an organization for Indian Men’s rights; Indian Family.

Theme – International Men’s Day

Every year,  the International Men’s Day is tagged with a particular theme. For instance, it was based on “Healing & Forgiveness” in 2007. And most recently, the last year’s theme was “Making Difference for Men and Boys”.

Similarly, this International Men’s Day 2020 is marked with the theme of “Better Health for Men and Boys”. Which aims to make improvements in the well being of male members of the society.
