International Sex Workers’ Day

International Whores’ Day or International Sex Workers’ Day is observed to honor sex workers and their work ethics and to raise concerns regarding their exploited working conditions. This day in June has been celebrated annually since 1976.

In the 1970s, the French police were forcing sex workers to work in secret under increasing pressure. Due to this, there was a decrease in their protection and it led to more violence against them. On June 2, 1975, the sex workers in Lyon took matters into their hands and went on strike by occupying the Saint-Nizier church in rue de Brest. They sang political chants to demand decent working conditions and to put an end to stigma.

On 10 June, police forces brutally raided the Church. This action sparked a national movement and marks the starting point of an international movement of sex workers for sex workers’ rights and the day is now celebrated in Europe and around the world.

World Pest Day

Established in 2017, World Pest Day is co-sponsored by the NPMA and Orkin. It is a multinational event that was established to raise awareness among the public, government and media about the work that pest management professionals (PMPs) do on a daily basis. The good quality of life that we lead today are generally attributed to three things by public health officials, one of them being effective pest control. Other than being a nuisance, pests are also capable of transmitting fatal diseases and causing significant property damage, in case they are left unchecked. It is therefore strongly encouraged for homeowners to work with qualified pest control professionals to prevent and protect against pests.
