PEOPLE DO NOT TALK TO EACH OTHER ANYMORE. We live in a generation of cell phones and online communication. Everyone seems to be so absorbed in the digital world. People do not call or text each other to ask how they’re doing anymore, they check their Snapchat status, WhatsApp messages or Instagram stories and posts.

We do not talk to each other unless important, and no one is really to be  blamed. Everyone around us is doing it, why shouldn’t we? If you’re not a part of the social media trend, you’re missing out, or at least that’s what it seems like. But in the midst of the online craze, have we lost the art of face-to-face communication? It is becoming a fact that people do not talk to each other anymore.

Social Media Is Dictating – People Do not Talk

When we meet someone new, almost the first thing they ask us is, “Are you on Facebook?” or “Do you use Instagram?” and we believe in adding them or following them over there rather than making an effort to talk.  Of course, technology has got its perks. It has completely removed the question of time and space in communication. We are able to connect to our cousin in the USA or New Zealand in a fraction of a second, or check up on what our classmate from school is doing these days, but instead of letting technology simply enhance our lives, we are allowing it to control and dictate our lives.

People have gone so astray from communicating with one another, that we now have platforms like ask.fm and Sarahah where people give you “feedback” and “opinions” anonymously, instead of actually gathering the courage to talk to one another, which would have a way better effect.

Restaurant tables are not buzzing with conversations anymore, people are busy uploading pictures with each other online rather than actually sit and converse with one another. Come Mother’s day, you see your social feeds flooded with affectionate posts, but do their mothers actually get to see said posts? Or are they just doing it to be a part of something that’s not even real?

Transformed Love – People Do not Talk In Person Anymore

The art of dating has completely changed with the digital era. People stopped approaching other people in real life anymore, it’s all Facebook messages and right swipes on dating apps. In fact a study shows that people who use Tinder are more awkward with how they talk and their body language on dates than usual people, because they are unable to make actual conversation with a human face-to-face. Conversations with your loved ones have turned to texts, and even the couples who live on the same campus as one another prefer to video chat rather than meet one another.

In many ways, technology is a boon, there’s no doubt about that. We have information about almost everything possible right at our fingertips, and we are able to connect with anyone or know what our friends are doing , at any point of  time, almost instantly. It is up to us what we do with this powerful tool. We can use it to our advantage to collect information and connect to people that are out of reach, but at the same time we must not get so carried away that we forget the world that is right in front of us and lose touch with real, face-to-face conversations.
